Abstract
The expansion of ArcelorMittal Monlevade will increase wire rod production from 1,2 Mtpy to 2,3 Mtpy. Therefore, logistics will face the challenge of increasing its capacity on reception, storage and expedition within room, investment and safety constraints. The present work aims to quantify the resources required for the future logistical operations. The present study was conducted using PDCA methodology. A simulation model was developed, using ProModel software, in order to evaluate different alternatives, as well as to identify possible bottlenecks. To begin with, data from the current operation was consolidated and feasible ways operations were identified with its respective investments. The work determined the flow of each raw material and product, taking into account its impacts on the plant entrance, loading bay and discharge station. It was concluded that layout and operational changes would allow significant increases in storage capacity. In addition, some changes in the actual...
