Abstract
Only an extremely small fraction of the surface area of nucleants is effective in freezing supercooled water. The number of active sites per unit area for a specific nucleant material is shown to increase by a constant factor, eb, for each degree of supercooling. The value of b varies but little for materials having markedly different activities.
