Clostridium perfringens (type D) toxin was identified as the cause of sudden deaths in chinchillas. The highest incidence was at 2-4 months of age. Only a few were observed with clinical signs before death occurred. A vaccination program was highly effective. © 1975, Royal Society of Medicine Press. All rights reserved.
