Abstract

Point-of-care ultrasound of lung and pleura can provide useful information to critical care practitioners. This information is more timely and in most cases more accurate than traditional chest radiographs. The skills required to acquire and interpret thoracic ultrasound images can be learned with focused training. These skills fit well within the scope of practice of pulmonary and critical care practitioners. © 2013 by the American Thoracic Society.
