Abstract

The article describes the current situation of the German railway. The analysis comprises the federal railroad company Deutsche Bahn AG as well as the entire sector and examines the problems of the market organisation. The recent government decisions to increase funding are shown to be insufficient to achieve the policy objectives of doubling rail transport in Germany by 2030.
