“Forbidden” planes for Rayleigh waves

Abstract

Existence of "forbidden" planes, on which Rayleigh waves cannot propagate, is discussed. A mathematical model for anisotropic materials possessing "forbidden" planes is constructed. An example of transversely isotropic material having "forbidden" planes is presented.
