Abstract

ABSTRACT: This was a field study, with a descriptive intention, by the puérpera of a private hospital institution from the west of Paraná, from june to july of 2000. It is a qualitative research, so then it was used a semi-structured interview method for the data collection. The collected information was grouped in theme units and analysed such as MINAYO (1996). The purpose was to identify the beliefs of the puérpera among breast-feeding methods. Many problems appeared decurrent of beliefs, however, many times the orientation to the puérperas are splitted, or they do not follow them, in disregard to their culture and beliefs.KEYWORDS: Breast-feeding; Obstetric Nursing; Family.
