Abstract

The aim of the study is to identify the evidence of the validity of the internal structure and the relationship with other variables of the MSPSS. The samples were formed by 242 students (Myears old = 14.02, DEyears old = 1,272) and 271 students (Myears old = 15.94, DEyears old = 1.192). In phase one, the original factorial structure of three oblique factors (family, friends and significant others) was replicated, and in the second phase it was corroborated that the dimensions of the MSPSS are predictors of eutymy (positive affect) and dysthymia (negative affect) of the state/Trait Depression Inventory. Reliability indicators of the scores and the construct are adequate. It is concluded that the MSPSS is an instrument with psychometric properties and that it can be used in the educational context.
