Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the physiological and biochemical effects of chronic exposure to whole body vibration on the lipid metabolism in 20 healthy young adults (mean age 23.6±2.33 years). Each subject was exposed 3 times per week for a total of 6 weeks, in sessions of 15 minutes, at diagonal stimuli, at 25 Hz, on a vibration platform. The protocol had a positive impact on the subjects’ body composition and serum lipid profile, with significant effects on lowering weight, body mass index, body fat percentage, total cholesterol and low-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (p < 0.017).
