Abstract

Objective. The purpose of this study is to analyze the needs and / or socio-pedagogical problems related to decision-making of second-grade students in a secondary school located east of the city of Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico, for the potentialization of the ability to decision-making, favoring opportunities aimed at human development. Material and methods. The research approach is mixed, with a descriptive  cross-sectional scope, from the quantitative point of view, the instrument "Melbourne questionnaire for decision making" was applied to 41 students; Subsequently, from the qualitative point of view, the discussion group technique was carried out with eight students, and finally, three interviews with teachers, whose participation was through a non-probabilistic random sample at convenience. Results and conclusions. In this way, it was visualized that the predominant decision-making styles in the population are surveillance and hypervigilance; They are influenced by the context in which they operate, interpersonal relationships, acceptance or rejection of an authoritarian figure, considered as risk factors that affect dangerous behaviors for their physical and psychosocial integrity.
