Abstract

The design of a radioactive waste drainage system must consider every reasonable method to limit the possible exposure of personnel inside the facility and keep the presence of radioactivity in any unrestricted area to a figure as low as reasonably achievable. The author discusses the selection of the pipe material required for a radioactive drainage system, the welding of this piping and the inspection of the welds, regulations regarding the discharge of liquid radwaste into the public sewer system, the storage of radwaste, and decontamination of both personnel and equipment.
