Abstract

This article critically examines the role of artificial intelligence (AI) as an epistemic agent in contemporary scientific writing. Through an interdisciplinary approach that articulates epistemology, sociology of science, and philosophy of technology, and by means of a document analysis of a corpus of 30 documents – including 17 academic articles, four institutional guidelines, five university reports, and four science communication texts – published from 2022 to 2025, the study identifies transformations in authorship, academic training, and the ethical governance of science. The results show that 30% of surveyed researchers use AI to structure introductions and discussions, evidencing a process of automation in crucial research stages. Tensions are highlighted between a technical-instrumental rationality, focused on productivity, and an emancipatory rationality, aimed at critique and democratization. It is concluded that AI amplifies ethical, epistemological, and pedagogical dilemmas, demanding new models of regulation, training, and critical reflection in the scientific field, which this work proposes based on its guidelines.
