Abstract

This paper reflects on the omission of practices aimed at workers' healthcare issues within the scope of the Family Health Strategy (FHS) and proposes inclusion of such practices. It takes the view that the changes to the physiciancentered care model require a new approach that incorporates analysis of the elements of production, circulation and consumption of goods. This approach is based on the theory of social determination of the health-illness process and on the categories of work and social reproduction. It proposes that incorporation of the topic of workers' health in the FHS should be accomplished through putting into operation an instrument that surveys and analyzes variables and indicators of social reproduction; through a matrix support system that integrates workers' health reference centers with primary healthcare units; and through continuing education for the FHS teams regarding workers' health issues.
