Abstract
Graphical abstract Abstract To be able to prevent and minimize damage and losses due to interference with high voltage overhead lines, a reliable and good protection system is needed. One of them uses distance relays. Distance relay is a protection system equipment that is used as a primary safety protection system on high voltage overhead lines. The working principle of distance relay is to measure the voltage at the relay point and the fault current that is seen from the relay then divide the voltage and current to find the value of impedance. These conditions indicate that the protection zone needs to be set accurately to find out how wide the range is to ensure the reliability and selectivity of the equipment when operate. This study analyzes the adjustment of distance relay on a 150 kV transmission line in the Bangka area by calculating the distance relay zone which is divided into 3 zones. The results of the distance relay settings have increased each zone. In zone 1 the value of impedance obtained is 207,968 Ω, in zone 2 the value of impedance obtained is 226,212 Ω, in zone 3 the value of impedance obtained is 345,933 Ω
