Abstract

The present contribution offers a reflection in which it is intended to organize, synthesize and expose some of the author’s convictions, from a sociology of education perspective, about the importance of education in general and of higher education in particular. The guiding thread of this reflection is the sense, or the senses, of relevance in relation to higher education. A series of suggestions, considerations and commitments derived from the author´s experience throughout his academic trajectory in the field of human, social and educational sciences are summarized here. This contribution is inspired by authors and lines of work that renew the educational tradition, with a format similar to the breviary; its intention is to propose a kind of declaration of principles or pedagogical manifesto on the relevance of education as a condition of possibility for a more just form of social life.
