Abstract
Institutional and organizational changes implemented in companies lead to social responsibility practices, as a way to contribute to sustainable development. This research article describes the institutional changes, and how these generate organizational changes in companies in the Colombian oil sector, studying at the same time how these changes configure practices of corporate social responsibility. From a review of the bibliography and the study of eight representative cases of the sector, different perspectives of authors are reviewed. The results indicate that the companies studied are under strict institutional and regulatory control, especially at the international level, since most of these companies have capital abroad and, for this reason, they must operate under the strict guidelines of this law. level. It is concluded that the oil sector defines its processes of corporate social responsibility as a competitive strategy and adaptability to institutional changes, orienting itself today to the sustainability of companies. Corporate Social Responsibility is an important component of the corporate strategy that seeks to mediate between the different actors of the social system and the internal forms of organization.
