Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused an unprecedented disruption to international tourism. This article shows the impact of COVID-19 on world tourism, through observational, retrospective, cross-sectional and descriptive research, corresponding to the exploratory level, being a qualitative, phenomenological and hermeneutical study. A comparison of COVID-19 with other global epidemics is established. With the support of the Covid19Tourism Index, a significant reduction in tourist activity is evident, specializing in passenger air traffic and hotel activity, placing the current situation in a second level of contingency. The authors, in addition to showing the impacts of the pandemic on tourism, conclude by proposing a SWOT matrix linked to the study topic, providing a synthetic characterization of the problem addressed.
