Abstract
A series of 510 cases of mammary cancer in females was studied. Family investigations showed that the same disease occurred with significantly increased frequency in sisters and mothers of these propositae. The rate of malignancy of other types in these relatives was not increased. A specific genetical agent, responsible for the disease, is postulated, which may be inherited mainly through the maternal line. © 1948, The British Empire Cancer Campaign for Research.
