Abstract

An upper limit of the column density of the C5 linear molecule in translucent interstellar clouds is estimated from high-resolution (R = 80000) and very high signal-to-noise ratio (∼1000) echelle spectra. It is 1012 cm-2 per E(B - V) = 1 (two orders of magnitude lower than that of C2).
