Abstract
Acoustic levitation can be a valuable tool to assist undergraduate students in learning basic concepts of physics, such as harmonic motion, acoustic standing waves and potential energy. In this paper, we present the working principle of an acoustic levitator and we explain how to apply basic equations of acoustics to determine the acoustic radiation force that acts on a small sphere in a standing wave field.
