The article explores a business network that was formed from the BancoPortuguês do Brasil. This network was formed in Rio de Janeiro by members ofportuguese immigrant community. It observes the activities of the bank for twentyyears, a period of time when the Rio's economy suffered drastic changes, once importbusinesses, organized around the City harbor gave place to investments oriented tothe domestic market. The article also explores the links between entrepreneurialgroups in Rio de Janeiro and Lisbon, aiming at showing the importance of the capitalraised in business ventures in Brazil to leverage business in Portugal.
