Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the relationship between women’s empowerment and poverty, topics that are part of the UN Millennium Development Goals. An analysis of a sample of 36 low and middle income countries divided equally among 6 different regions shows that education and health are important factors in determining the level of develop- ment. Findings suggest that the implementation of certain types of programs empower women and gradually alleviate poverty.
