Abstract

The effectiveness of treatments with 4 insecticides, bromopropylate, Apiakaridim (a mixture of tetradifon and malathion), amitraz and thymol crystals, for the control of infestations with Varroa jacobsoni in honey bee (Apis mellifera) colonies was determined in north-eastern Italy in the autumn of 1983. Amitraz was used only once, while the other 3 insecticides were applied 4 times at 4-day intervals. The results showed that bromopropylate gave the most consistent results and was not harmful to adult or immature bees.
