Abstract

At the beginning of the third decade of the 21st century, the digital transformation in the current information scenario is investigated and perspectives for Information Science are analysed. The article aims: to identify the digital informational context in contemporary society; to analyse how digital transformation and Artificial Intelligence (AI) impact on information services. The methodology adopted was theoretical research of descriptive and exploratory nature that seeks in the discussion of literature to respond to the proposed objectives. The results reveal that social practices in the production, distribution, access, and use of information mediated by information and communication technologies are diverse. The interaction between individuals and organisations is supported by these technologies for the exchange of data and information. The digital world assumes the main role in the information that is processed, recorded, and communicated. The impact of AI on archives and libraries is a reality, which will increase in the upcoming years. It is concluded that digital technologies and AI bring new challenges to information professionals.
