Digital Maturity for EFL Learners: Implications for Educational Practice

Abstract

Digital maturity for EFL learners involves using digital tools effectively, managing content, engaging in online communication, promoting self-directed and adaptive learning, and enhancing language skills through diverse interactive experiences. This research aimed to 1) determine the digital maturity levels of EFL learners within a specified educational context, and 2) investigate the relationship between digital maturity levels and English language proficiency among EFL learners. Studies showed that learners with higher levels of digital maturity were more capable of utilizing digital tools for specific language skills, including reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Moreover, educational institutions played a critical role in fostering these competencies by providing structured training and accessing to digital infrastructure. The research suggested that as technology became more embedded in educational practices, the development of digital maturity was vital for successful language learning outcomes. This research contributed to the growing body of knowledge by emphasizing the need for a multifaceted approach to developing digital maturity that included both individual learner engagement and institutional support.    Received: 18 October 2024 / Accepted: 26 December 2024 / Published: 11 January 2025
