Primary liver cell cancer is a complication of cirrhosis and is more common in men. It is usually related to chronic hepatitis B virus infectionor alcoholism, and more rarely to α1-antitrypsin deficiency, haemochromatosis, or primary biliary cirrhosis. We report the development of primary liver cell cancer in two women with autoimmune chronic liver disease, an association which has not been described. © 1981, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
