Abstract

This study investigates the potential of advanced technologies to enhance supply chains in family owned agricultural businesses. Special emphasis is placed on improving transparency, efficiency, and sustainability in agri-food production through smart digital technologies such as blockchain, IoT, big data, artificial intelligence, and automation. The study aims to identify the challenges and opportunities of digitalization in agriculture and explore how these technologies can facilitate more efficient interactions among all stakeholders in the agricultural supply chain. To address these objectives, we propose an integrated model for optimizing supply chains using digital technologies. This includes a set of mathematical models and algorithms designed to minimize costs, increase efficiency, and ensure traceability across all stages of goods movement from producer to end consumer. The methodology incorporates mathematical modelling techniques and assesses the impact of digital technologies on various stages of supplier performance, including production and sales. The results demonstrate that advanced technologies can significantly reduce cycle times, enhance precision in agricultural production, lower logistics costs, and improve process transparency. Specifically, blockchain and IoT enhance product traceability, while big data analytics enables better demand forecasting and inventory management. Additionally, digitization strengthens collaboration among farms, slaughterhouses, and consumers. The originality of this work lies in its interdisciplinary approach, integrating insights from agronomy, logistics, and digital technologies. The paper offers a fresh perspective on the role of innovative technologies in supply chain optimization and examines the potential risks agricultural companies may encounter when adopting such solutions. The study provides actionable recommendations for agricultural producers, logistics firms, and government agencies on implementing digital supply chain solutions based on mathematical models. The findings can inform strategies for agricultural digitalization and contribute to improving the efficiency and sustainability of the sector amid global changes.
