Abstract

Eight species in the genus Oxycatantops Dirsh & Uvarov are revised. Of these O. castor and O. zamhiensis are new. O. exsul (Karny) is restored from synonymy under spissus (Walker) and O. exsul pallidus n. subsp. is newly described on the basis of phallic morphology. O. adustus (Walker), O. congoensis (Sjöstedt), O. imperator (Bolivar) and O. nigrospinosus (Sjöstedt) are confirmed as valid species. O. spissus (Walker) contains three subspecies, the nominate race, subsp. praemonstrator (Karsch) n. stat. and subsp. uranius (Kirby) n. stat. Catantops humilis var. interruptus Bolivar and Catantops camerunensis Sjöstedt are newly synonymised under O. spissus praemonstrator (Karsch), while Catantops major Karny is n. syn. under O. spissus uranius (Kirby). © 1989 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
