Prodrug: A novel approach of drug delivery

Abstract

For the targeting of drugs in the body various approaches are used for example nanotechnology, microcapsules, micro emulsions etc. But most of these approaches suffering from a lot of problems such as stability problem and entrapment efficiency etc. These problems can be easily overcome by using Prodrug approach. Prodrugs are often designed to improve oral bioavailability in cases where the intended drug is poorly absorbed through the gastrointestinal tract.
