Abstract
Weaving is a form of culture that is preserved in Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT). As the development of fashion market increases, NTT weavers are required to be more innovate and be creative in producing weaving. One of the processes that hinders the production is the lengthy process of yarn winding. To wind a small thread, this process takes almost 1 hour. Since many of the weavers live in remote areas, the condition is worsened by unavailability of electricity. The weavers cannot wind the yarn for a longer time due to the absence of light. As a solution to these problems, in this study an automatic yarn winding machine with a renewable energy supply (solar cell system) was built.The results show that there is an increase in the number of threads wound in a very short time. For instance, this machine is capable of producing a small yarn sleeve in 5 minutes. Hence, in an hour, 12 sleeves (slongsongs) can be produced. Previously it took almost 1 hour with manual winding to produce a sleeve of yarn.
