New psoriasis treatments based upon a deeper understanding of the pathogenesis of psoriasis vulgaris and psoriatic arthritis: A personal appraisal of their use in practice

Abstract

In this editorial I have tried to give the reader my perspectives on the use of the "new biologics," and my concerns and hopes at an exciting and perhaps even a watershed moment in the history of psoriasis treatment. This essay is time sensitive, and if you read it several years from now I hope that my questions have been answered and that my concerns were unfounded. If you ask me how I utilize these agents, it may be the same as I do now in 2003 - or my practices might be totally different. The question of which therapy is "best" will proceed, and the quest for a cure must not end until it has been achieved. Our patients deserve nothing less.
