Abstract

The article emphasizes the fact that the signing of the free trade agreement achieved between the EU and the MERCOSUR goes within the updated foreign economic strategy of the European Union, aimed at promoting the economic interests of European business beyond the boundaries of this integration block. The author is convinced that the MERCOSUR is a very attractive market for European companies, given the size of the economy of its members and the number of its population. The conclusion is that, despite of certain risks for the business enclosed in the agreement, it will be of the utmost help for swelling trade and investment ties between the partners and would provide an additional incentive for their economic development. This agreement is of particular importance in the context of the growing protectionist policy of the United States.
