Abstract

This paper proposes an individual authentication system using lip images. This method performs biometrics authentication using physical character focused on lip shape. This method is easier and more convenient than biometrics authentication that uses active characters such as movement of lips in the point of using natural and static lip images. The proposed system, which is non-contacting system because we input images from camera, is more effective than contacting system where psychological resistance and conformability are required. First, lip images are captured from face images taken by camera. Next, edge images are generated from lip images and individuals are certificated using template matching. The experimental results show that the proposed system obtains the sufficient accuracy to certificate individuals. © 2011, The Institute of Image Electronics Engineers of Japan. All rights reserved.
