Abstract
Many people claim that Shari'ati contributed significantly to the revolution in Iran. Even though he died a year before the revolution took place, his thoughts had a lot to influence the figures driving the 1978-1979 revolution. In fact, L. Carl Brown stated that Imam Khomeini was one of the important figures in the Iranian revolution who was somewhat influenced by Shari'ati's revolutionary thinking. This research discusses Shariati's thoughts on Humanism and the Theology of Liberation which he put forward. This research is a library research type. This means that in this study the author focuses on the use of data and information with the help of various materials related to Ali Shariati and his thoughts in the library, such as books, journals, historical documents, and so on. From the studies conducted, it is known that the concept of theologies brought by Shari'ati is a theology that frees humans from detrimental fatalism. Humanism and revolutionary themes are very thick in it. He brought religious studies from Islamic traditionalism which was more theo-centric in style, to studies that were more anthropocentric in character. Shariati invites Muslims to promote liberation through reinterpretation of beliefs. Shari'ati clearly rejects the Western view - Marx - which states that religion is "the opium of the people". For shariati, religion can actually lead people to ideological commitments to free individuals from pressure.
