Abstract

Some influences of scandium, thorium and plutonium additions to cerium on the α ⇋ γ transformation have been studied. From this investigation it was learned that valency of the solute has important influence on this transformation, that these solutes prevent the formation of the β-Ce and that the heat of transformation is increased by scandium and plutonium and decreased by thorium. Furthermore, it was found that the critical point of pure cerium is lowered considerably by thorium additions. © 1962.
