Abstract

Education in Indonesia needs to integrate cultural values as the basis for building and developing a more civilized life. This is so that students have moral benchmarks that need to include cultural values in the era of globalization. At this time in the era of globalization, one of which is marked by the ease with which people get information from various parts of the world as a result of the rapid development of technology. Globalization brings many changes and new social, economic, and cultural challenges. This study aims to determine the application of culture-based character education in facing the challenges of globalization. This study used the library research method with a qualitative approach. The results of the study show that character education is a value that needs to be realized in the survival of the nation, which will become the foundation for Indonesian children to become quality individuals, by the 18 character values ​​based on national culture. Education cannot be separated from culture. This character education should be done through a comprehensive (global) and holistic (overall) approach. and can be implemented through learning (teaching), exemplary (modeling), strengthening (reinforcing), and habituating (habituating).
