Abstract
Lower class displacement is generally assumed as a major concern when evalu-ating the effects of gentrification and urban renewal policies in inner city areas. This work proposes a quantitative methodology based on census data and cartography to determine if moving in middle class residents (one key aspect of gentrification), has a relationship with lower class original residents’ displacement. Our case of study is the city of Córdoba, Argentina, between 1991-2010. Results suggest that although displacement levels are high for the central area, they are not necessarily related to gentrification.
