Abstract
The work presents some glimpses on the phenomenon of metaphor, focusing on the cognitive perspective (G. Lakoff and M.L. Johnson, 1998). It is based on the hypothesis that the human conceptual system is largely metaphorical. Metaphors impregnate the language by which we represent and explain certain experiences difficult to grasp, abstract phenomena or complex facts, based on more basic and known concepts. This function crosses different types of discourse, but in this opportunity we will dedicate ourselves to its use in the discourse of the linguistic science.
