Abstract
This study was aimed at investigating factors that hinder utilisation of the Employee Assistance Programme in the Department of Labour, South Africa. The study took into account the fact that the efforts to train supervisors in order to increase EAP awareness amongst employees and improve programme accessibility through an outsourced and decentralised service have proved ineffective. Findings indicate that there are various factors discouraging employees from consulting the EAP. This study enabled the researchers to make recommendations to the Department of Labour on specific factors that need to be addressed to ensure optimal and effective utilisation of the EAP.
