Abstract
CO:PELL ODS-packed guard columns were used for the trace enrichment (TE) of seawater-soluble fractions of a bunker-C oil. Extracted compounds showed predominantly nonlinear accumulation rates with respect to sample volume. In addition, Sep-Pak C18 cartridges were also used for trace enrichment and displayed decreases In extraction efficiency with increasing sample volumes for five model compounds in seawater. An equation defining the decrease in extraction efficiency of benzene with sample volume was used to predict the sampling volume at which the amount of benzene present on the Sep-Pak cartridge would be maximal. © 1979, American Chemical Society.
