Abstract
Amorphous/nanocrystalline formation process of TiNi alloys induced by severe plastic deformation was studied by using molecular dynamics simulations. During the simulations of the extrusion process of TiNi specimens, we have observed nanocrystalline formation as well as amorphous formation. The relation between the area reduction by extrusion and the volume fraction of the amorphous phases has been calculated and agrees with the experimental observations. We have also observed the formation of arrays of edge dislocations or partial wedge disclinations prior to nanocrystalline formation. © 2013 The Japan Institute of Light Metals.
