Abstract

Influence of the catalyst, solvent and temperature on the fibrous acetalization of polyvinyl alcohol with cyclohexanone was studied. As cyclohexanone is insoluble in water, mixtures of water and methanol were used as a solvent. Degree of acetalization was higher when methanol concentration and temperature of reaction was low. But it was difficult to obtain higher degree of acetalization than 30 mol%. Boiling water resistence of the obtained fibers were not sufficient. © 1957, The Society of Fiber Science and Technology, Japan. All rights reserved.
