Abstract
Justicia gendarussa Burm.f. (gandarusa), a shrub reaching 1.5 meters tall, contains bioactive compounds (flavonoids, alkaloids, steroids, terpenoids, saponins, phenolic compounds, hydrocarbons) with potential antiangiogenic, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and antirheumatic properties. This study analyzed the phytochemical composition of gandarusa leaves from Pangkep through sample preparation, 70% ethanol extraction, stepwise fractionation (n-hexane and ethyl acetate), and compound identification via preparative TLC and column chromatography. Extraction yielded 30% efficiency from 200g dried leaves. Phytochemical analysis confirmed alkaloids, steroids, and flavonoids. Preparative TLC showed Rf values of 0.47 (green analyte) and 0.41 (yellow analyte). UV-Vis spectrophotometry indicated flavonoid content of 3.66–3.82 mg/L. Thus, gandarusa leaves contain bioactive compounds-particularly flavonoids, alkaloids, and steroids-with pharmaceutical development potential
