Abstract

Cod tagged on a coastal spawning ground of herring in south-western Norway were mostly recaptured close to the release site. Distant recaptures were reported from the North Sea and along the coast south and north of the tagging area. The proportion of distant recaptures was highest from the tagging experiment carried out during the spawning season of herring in March, suggesting that more cod with a relatively strong migratory tendency were found on the bank when herring were present than in June and January.
