Abstract
Studies of the relation of carbohydrate and nitrogen fractions to the fruiting habits of sugar prunes (Prunus domestica) are reported. Bearing trees, as compared with non-bearing, had higher total nitrogen before May 1 and lower after that date and were consistently lower in starch content both in tops and roots. Starch content and moisture showed an inverse relationship. Increase of N and reducing sugars in the fruit was regular, with sugars increasing greatly when the fruit began to ripen. || ABSTRACT AUTHORS: O. E. Street
