Abstract

The application of flotation processes to wastewater treatment is reviewed. The most obvious areas are in removing substances with a lower specific gravity than water, such as oily and fatty materials, but the paper considers dissolved air flotation, which does not confine the topic to substances with a specific gravity of less than 1 and it does not include ion flotation. The involvement of physical and physico-chemical properties are discussed before the technical aspects are detailed, with examples described and illustrated. Design criteria and cost estimating guidance is given. (P.J.B.)
