Abstract
Rather pure electrolytic nickel was further purified by annealing in hydrogen. A study was made of suitable refractory crucibles and of melting conditions i,> produce extremely pure compact metal. The ingots finally prepared Were of a purity of 99.94 per cent. New determinations of many of the physical properties of nickel have been made on the very pure metal thus made available. Data are given on density, crystal-lattice constant, melting point, electrical resistiviU , magnetic properties, thermal e. m. f., thermal expansion, hardness, tensile strength, and reflectivity.
