Abstract

The report from Chapman and colleagues3 illustrates that as hsTn and the latest iteration of the UDMI are integrated into clinical practice there will be an increase in the number and the proportion of patients with elevated values of cardiac troponin who have a final diagnosis of type 2 MI, acute myocardial injury or chronic myocardial injury. Moreover, these diagnoses are prognostically important and warrant clinical attention. We are entering a new phase of intense clinical investigation that will aim to identify therapies that ameliorate this adverse prognosis.
