Abstract

This paper analyzes the effects of socio-economic status, social relation and hope for personal future on hope for society's future among middle and old age people. These days, reflections of Japanese society tend to argue that there is a widespread loss of hope among the society. Although previous studies examined the relation between hope for personal future and individual attributes or social circumstances, there is no attempt to clarify mechanism for promoting hope for society's future. According to the analysis, there is positive correlation between hope for personal future and hope for society's future, after controlling various variables. Furthermore, the results show that socio-economic status and social relation directly affect hope for personal future, while these factors indirectly affect hope for society's future mediated by hope for personal future.
