Abstract

Current canine leptospiral vaccines do not protect against clinical disease caused by infection with serovars other than canicola and icterohemorrhagiae. Dogs infected with Leptospira serovar grippotyphosa may develop acute renal failure. Whereas bacteriologic culture is the definitive method of diagnosis, serology may be used for presumptive identification of the infecting leptospiral serovar.
